Dr. Deepak Sharma is chief of Neuroanesthesia & Perioperative Neuroscience at UW Medicine. Dr. Sharma is also UW’s Virginia & Prentice Bloedel Endowed Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and a professor of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Sharma is an expert in anesthesia for intracranial and spine surgery as well as interventional neuroradiology. Dr. Sharma strives to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care with a focus on patient safety. He creates active partnerships with his patients to achieve the best possible outcomes. Dr. Sharma received his medical education in India.

His clinical interests include neuroanesthesiology, perioperative neurosciences, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. His research interests include traumatic brain injury, stroke, transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, cerebrovascular reactivity, and education in anesthesiology. He serves on the board of directors of the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology & Critical Care and multiple national committees for Neuroanesthesia.

Dr. Alison Fox-Robichaud is a Professor of Medicine at McMaster University and an Intensivist and Director of Medical Education at Hamilton Health Sciences. She received an Honours BSc from Biology and Chemistry from the University of New Brunswick and her MSc in Medical Sciences at McMaster University. She completed her MD at the University of Ottawa followed by Internal Medicine, Critical Care, and Postdoctoral training at the University of Calgary. She returned to McMaster as faculty in 2000. Her research interests include the pathophysiology of sepsis and how evidence is transferred into clinical care. She holds CHRP funding for the development of a point of care device for the detection of cell free DNA. She is the Scientific Director of the recently CHIR-funded Canadian Sepsis Research Network; Sepsis Canada is a research collaborative of 190 scientists, knowledge users, patients, and family partners. She is past president of the Canadian Critical Care Society and inaugural president of the Canadian Sepsis Foundation, her more than 95 peer-reviewed publications reflect a broad engagement in academic medicine.  She is an executive member of the Canadian Critical Care Translational Biology Group and members of the board of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group and the Global Sepsis Alliance. In 2015, she received a Leading Practice Award from Accreditation Canada for the integration of an electronic early warning score into the medical record. In 2018, the Global Sepsis Alliance awarded her an individual award for her sepsis leadership.

Dr. Sangeeta Mehta is a Critical Care Physician and Respirologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. She completed medical school at McGill University in Montreal, Internal Medicine training at the University of Toronto, and Respirology and Critical Care training at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, and a Clinician Scientist in the Division of Respirology and Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care, at the University of Toronto; and Clinician Scientist in the Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute.

Dr. Mehta served as the Mount Sinai Hospital Intensive Care Unit Research Director from 1998 through 2016. She has over 160 peer-review publications. Her research program has included clinician and patient surveys, prospective national multi-center practice audits, systematic reviews, and randomized controlled trials.

Dr. Hana Nobleza is currently the Medical Director of the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit of the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the fellowship director of the Neurocritical Care fellowship program. She completed her medical training in UERMMMC in the Philippines and proceeded to do her residency in Neurology at the University of Connecticut and Neurocritical Care Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.

She was awarded the University of Mississippi Medical Center Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) Innovation award in 2020. She leads the Women in Neurocritical Care section mentorship program. She is currently the faculty advisor for the Student Interest Group in Neurology. Her passion is mentorship, collaboration, and building a pipeline of women Neurologists and Neurocritical care specialists to improve inclusion and diversity in these fields.

Dr. Paolo Pelosi is currently Chief Professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine and Director of the Specialty School in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the University of Genoa, as well as Head of the Anesthesia and Intensive Care at IRCCS San Martino-IST Hospital in Genoa, Italy. He grew up in Milan and attended the University of Milan, graduating magna cum laude in Medicine and Surgery. After graduation, he completed his studies first as Specialist in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care and then as Research Fellow in Anaesthesiology at the University of Milan. He served as Associate Professor in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Insubria, Varese, from 1999 to 2010. His activity has always been directed both to the clinical and research field. He is also experienced in meta-analysis and leading of large prospective RCTs as well as observational trials. He is actively involved in the Fellowship and Resident educational program at the University of Genoa. He served as President of the European Society of Anaesthesiology ESA (2010-2011) and first as Secretary and then as Head of the Respiratory Intensive Care Assembly 2 at the European Respiratory Society. He is a member of the board of International Meetings’ Organizing Committees. He was Editor and/or Co-Editor of several books and scientific issues.

Dr. Aarti Sarwal is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Wake Forest School of Medicine and the Medical Director and Section Chief of Neurocritical Care at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She completed residency at University of Missouri and her fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. She is an expert in ultrasound and has served as faculty and course director for numerous international societies (e.g. Neurocritical Care Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American Thoracic Society).

She was an organizing Co-Chair for the 6th World Congress for Ultrasound in Medical Education and serves as an ultrasound expert for clinical research trials. Dr. Sarwal also serves as the Social Media Editor for the Critical Care Medicine and Neurocritical Care journals.

Dr. Janice L. Zimmerman is currently President of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care. She completed her medical training, residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Zimmerman is an Adjunct Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and previously Head of the Critical Care Division for the Department of Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital. She was Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and the Institute of Academic Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital and Texas A & M College of Medicine. She is a Master of the American College of Physicians and Society of Critical Care Medicine. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from SCCM in 2001 and 2013, the Joseph and Rae Brown Award in 2015, and the Safar Global Partner Award in 2017.  She is a current and continuing member of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines Committee since its inception and serves as a liaison to the American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science Committee. She was one of the originators of the Fundamental Critical Care Support course for SCCM. She regularly teaches at regional, national, and international critical care meetings and board review courses and publishes peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
